Thank you, John - I see you are a member of a rapidly vanishing species, the photojournalist, as publishers turn more and more to crowd-sourcing and everyone has an iphone. But in a way the writing was on the wall even when I was part-photojornalist, part commercial photog, 30 years ago. I remember the picture editor of the Observer Magazine saying "You can't expect to make a living doing this", when I complained about how badly they were paying me for some job. So people like me and you subsidised the publishers by doing other kinds of work. For most people then, photojournalism was not a viable way of earning a living.
