DxO Now Owns Nik Software

Posting from a phone. Thought this be of interest to Nik and CNX2 users. The current collection will free at DoX until a new version is released probably in mid 2018.

Thanks for sharing, Dave!

I hope DXO would make sure that the current free version could run on the latest CC2018 on Win10.  :D

Armando, thanks.  That is a bummer.  It took me some work to get Nik to work on my new Win 10 laptop and it is a bit buggy.  I have not gone to PS CC2018 or LR Classic yet so will probably hold off on at least one computer.

Armando, thanks for your volunteering.  Yeah, that was a bit too optimistic...

Akira: I run CC2018 and Win 10 / x64 fall 2017 creators update with NIK and there is no trouble whatsoever...

Proof: one shot of my yesterday work simply run through the prefab "yellowed 2" filter...

I am running ps latest edition niks' has been integrated as a filter but has been quite buggy  since this year, causing ps to crash.

The NIK Software is already implemented in their latest version of the RAW-converter.
The software has a new name too. Previously DxO Optics Pro (v11) and is now DxO PhotoLab.

Interesting Fons, even with one of the later CC2017 updates I had to copy and paste into plug-ins in the Adobe PS program(Win7).   Had to do same on new Win 10 Laptop.  I have not had Nik quit on me but some functions in ColorPro and SE Pro are buggy.

Frank, thanks for the info.  The updating my Win10 to fall 2017 creators is now on hold, because I'm waiting for the compatibility info on one of my important software.

Now I'm confused with the mixed experiences shared by Armando, Fons and Frank.   ???

I think it runs best as a plugin.

Plugin ps calls it a filter as opposed to standalone, so same thing.
It comes down to memory management probably of photoshop, when you load too many presets within color efex, silver efex is even worse that way.

DxO comes with presets similar to niks,
I actually like Topaz plugins, ...

No. It's not a filter in my CC. It's a plug-in called 'Selective Tool' which you can customize in a very flexible way. Never had problems with this 'combination'.

Do you use this RAW Converter? Are you happy with this RAW converter?

Interesting Fons, even with one of the later CC2017 updates I had to copy and paste into plug-ins in the Adobe PS program(Win7).   Had to do same on new Win 10 Laptop.  I have not had Nik quit on me but some functions in ColorPro and SE Pro are buggy.

I had crashes and tried to reproduce them. I found the following:

  • After every Photoshop update one should reinstall Nik, or it will not run stable. I guess CC Update overwrites files Nik needs with other versions.
  • Take great care that your Photoshop locale and language version is the same as the one of Nik. I use EN/US on both as I always did.
  • Never start a Nik filter while PS is saving a file in the background.

These were the reasons for crashes I could identify yet. Since I follow these rules no more crashes have occured.
