Watching a Documentary
« on: October 21, 2017, 00:45:11 »
Was hired to cover an event a few days ago.   Architecture group hired out a local theater to play 2 documentaries.   They asked me to cover the event.  Here are a few of the participants during movie time.

Nikon D700, D500
Nikon 24-70/2.8, Tokina 11-16/2.8 and Tamron 70-200/2.8VC

Post processed in Lightroom and on1 Effects 2017 from RAW files.

Color versions of the below files can be seen here:

Lighting was tough, but both the D700 and D500 could see and focus when I could not.  Camera was on a tripod most of the time.  I sat in the last row in the back and directly under the screen.

There was also a guest panel Q&A after the screening.

Andrew, you did a very good job here! both the images showing the screen and the audience -that exposure doesn´t look easy- and the expression on the viewers. Interesting on its own, the client should be very happy.

Well, they paid, so that is a good sign.  lol.

You are correct, the exposure was very challenging.   Shot in RAW and went to town in post, although I will admit that the D700 and D500 are well suited for this kind of work.   I thought afterwards that I may have benefited from using a graduated ND filter to bring the screen brightness down.  I learn something new at every job.

I think I would have been sunk had I not thought to bring the tripod with me!

Love this series. Watching the watchers is a thing within itself and you have done a great job of this. The monochrome and grain particularly suit this theme. It is one of the most significant form of "candid" photography but with a little more thought in the formula.

Thank you Mongo for the thoughtful reply.   I wasn't sure how well it would work out, but once I got into the groove, the wealth of subjects were mine for the picking!
