35mm f/1.4 Nikkor-N lens
« on: September 11, 2017, 22:27:26 »
I was in my local camera shop today; he had a 35mm f/1.4 factory AI converted Nikkor with Thorium glass, nine blades but only goes to f16.  I looked up the serial number on http://www.photosynthesis.co.nz and it shows f22.  The glass does have a yellow tint to it, anything to worry about?  He's asking $250...

Also, should i worry about mounting this on my FA?

Your lens is pre-AI, but it has been properly converted to AI by Nikon, so should be safe to mount on any Nikon camera.

The original lens does stop down to f22, and the range f1.4 ~ f22 is the largest from any Nikon lens - it is one more in both directions compared to the Nikkor-O 35/2 made at the same time. I think early AI cameras could not handle such a large range so when Nikon made the AI conversion ring, the range was reduced one stop so it only goes to f16.

Roland,

that makes sense... I also think it will be an upgrade to the Nikkor-O 35mm f/2.0 that i already have for those "special" shots taken wide open.

I think it match my Df very well..

thanks again

The Nikkor-O 35/2 gets overshadowed by the faster and more exotic Nikkor-N 35/1.4, but it's still a very good lens if you don't need the extra stop.
