Problem with Zeiss Otus 55mm APO Lens
« on: September 23, 2017, 18:13:44 »
The lens works fine on my Nikon Camera, but when I lock it at f/16 like I am supposed to, the dial on the Nikons no longer cause it to change aperture on the LiveView screen. Must be contacts, because it does the same thing on both the D810 and the D850. How do I clear these anyone? And thanks.

Is the camera set up to change aperture on the lens or with the camera dial? There is an option under custom controls to switch from the one to the other. All my cameras use aperture control with the aperture ring on the lens, and the LiveView shows the aperture change when I rotate the ring.

Much appreciated. It is on Manual and I will try the Q-tip swab.

Here is a fun one I just took with the Nikkor CRT lens. I am calling it (to myself) LSD Redux. LOL.

I will check that. Thanks.

I tried the alcohol swab, but made no differene.

In setting the controls, I am perhaps confused. Can someone please say exactly what controls and how are they set? I am trying for the command dials, front and back to give me aperture variation and shutter variation, preferably with shutter to the front dial.

Familiar behavior. What I did: Set a complete manual on the my old D800, set a 50mm f2.0, (F2.0!), set to -1 or +1 correction (check it on your camera). In case I needed F22.0, set to f2.8, correction accordingly to + or -2. It works reliable for me. LZ

From a D800, but should be very similar:
Custom Setting Menu-->Customize Command Dials-->Aperture Setting-->Aperture Ring.
This will give aperture ring control on lenses with an aperture ring, and revert to dial control for G and E lenses.

I checked the camera out with another Zeiss Otus lens and that lens works fine. So, it'
s not the setup. Must be the connection to the camera, which is brand new. Any other ideas?

Any Zeiss repair centers in the U.S.?
