Night at the Tablao "Las Carboneras"
« on: July 10, 2017, 11:48:53 »
I´ve got the new 24-70 2.8 vr. First impressions where not very good, so much I was thinking about returning it. I decided to give it a last try at a normal working situation for me so I ask a friend If I could go to take some images of a live flamenco show to try it out. It was like trying a whole new different tool. It works wonderful in low light-fast action. It looks like definition is much better all across the frame already from 2.8. I can´t explain why such a difference in behavior. I´m going to keep it for sure.
The 70-200e is impressive. Very. Even better.

In the set some to show images that work for the place, for me and to show the lenses.

I like the last two and the portrait of the female dancer.  If the right hand of the dancer would have been completely in the frame, #1 would have been the absolute best.

Good stuff, Paco, I can almost hear the music!

What is that in the fingers of the left hand in the last shot?

Carl, that is a castanet commonly used by the flamenco dancers.

I thought about that but it didn't look enough like a castanet to me, too soft edged, looking more like cloth. OTOH, a castanet is the only thing that one would expect.

Thanks for all the nice comments.
I don´t konw about your question. Akira is right in assuming the castanetes but in this case, he was not using them. I guess is a play of shadows that may be confusing.
Flamenco is still a challenge but a nice one. This new tools are making my life easier. I had another shooting today and one more tomorrow will post if anything comes out.

LOL!  That proves how the preconception affects the perception.  :D
