UV Nikkor 105mm - Rudbeckia hirta
« on: July 09, 2017, 22:00:05 »

Human Vision - UV - simulated Bee Vision

Great to test a newly acquired (backup) lens...

Extremely sharp lens, and a great performer it is.
Quite a pleasure to use.

Nice examples of what the UV-Nikkor can deliver. It really belongs to the greatest of all Nikkors. For redundancy and backup reasons, I always bring two of them.

What camera did you use it on?

That was on a modified Olympus mirrorless one. Unfortunately 2 stops less sensitive than my Lumix, so not that happy

Thanks Jakov! I like that, too!!

The simulated bee vision is really nice, it really attracts attention for humans as well ;)

Did you get the mount to work properly?

Just in case one is interested in the (unscientific!) comparison UV-Nikkor 105 vs Coastal Optics 105: http://photographyoftheinvisibleworld.blogspot.de/2017/07/uv-nikkor-105mm-vs-coastal-optical.html

Good to learn there are options apart from the old UV-Nikkor such as UV 105 Rayfact, and now the Coastal 105.

Unfortunately, quality and price go hand in hand.

Unfortunately, quality and price go hand in hand.

Guess I found the culprit, I measured 2.1mm for the original Nikon mounting ring and another well fitting one with Nikon AI mount, BUT 2.2mm for the one of the wobbly COASTAL lens. It is that groove that runs around the mound where those lugs are, with a little overlap. THAT easily explains why it wobbles! 0.1mm is quite a bit. Guess this is why some people with similar problems widened the adapter lugs for a tighter fit!!

Tested my Novoflex and all other adapters, there is indeed not enough tension for those built in springs to produce enough pressure for a tight fit to 2.2mm. The tighter original mount however with 2.1mm fits perfectly.

That measurement is of course extremely important however it is also very difficult to measure.

A standard caliper will often touch the outer edge of the mount with the rear of the jaw and the caliber will not be parallel to the axis, the resulting measurement will bee off,,,
