300 2.8 AI infinity help
« on: June 20, 2017, 15:15:35 »
Hi Folks,
I posted up a year ago or so when I bought this lens.  it's pretty beat up, but usable, I think.  Bjørn was kind enough to sell me a CPU for this beast and I'm hoping to get it working.
I took the focus mechanism apart last night as the lens wouldn't get to infinity.  Does anyone have any experience or ideas how to make adjustments to this style of lens?  It's very simple inside, but I can't figure it out!  Does the lens need a filter to get to infinity?  There are tabs inside that I could grind to change the endpoint, which I know will make this work, but it doesn't seem to be the right way.....

any help is greatly appreciated!

some photos:
#1 it's clearly been worked on before.

#2 the screw above "19" holds a small tab that is the mechanical stop.

#3 focus slide helicoid guide pin

#4 where the holes all line up.

This lens shouldn't require a filter in place to reach infinity. There is usually a very generous "overshoot" of the infinity position.

Thanks, Bjørn,
I can't see where this could have been knocked out of alignment or changed.  The rest of the lens looks like it hasn't been touched from factory.
