This is the Canon stall, which seemed to be hiding behind this assorted shrubbery!

Another exhibit, this time a Zeiss lens bisected, the rep told me that the cost of cutting an actual lens apparently is more the the cost of the lens itself, which is about £3000!

Strangely I've never seen the other halves of such cut models!

They get two halves - just glue them together later and sell as "refurbished" :D

By the way, I have one or two "half-lenses" myself. Actually, you can make a photo with them if the open part is covered with a black material.

LOL!

I always thought that the other halves were sacrificed to make perfectly clean halves...

I did ask if you turn it over will all the bits fall out and was told yes so the components are glued in place and the diaphragm unit is removed. Apparently there is a very high risk of the lens glass shattering when this is done!

What I find interesting is the intricacy of the construction!

Obviously this is not your standard, crappy consumer lens.  :)

Simone, it looks like one of the Compact Prime CP.2 cine lenses.  Probably Distagon 25/2.8.

Amazing construction , I see what I presume are helicoid threads on many places, certainly not a lens to be serviced by a beginner

I think Akira may be right in thinking that they are cine lenses!

Yes, I think so.

Yesterday I saw a real CP.2 (50mm/T2.1).  It was beautifully made and it had a Nikon mount attached.  But it was too big (100mm filter thread) and too expensive (360,000+ JPY used).

I would assume they'd sacrifice a defective unit, for instance one that was seriously but not visibly decentered.  Zeiss lenses cost more in part due to better quality control, and that in turn means there must some rejects.
