Hi Richard, thank you for another informative link and for the write up of the Gauss type Nikkor-PC 105mm f/2.5 lens.

I particularly noticed your battles with hardened glues on your copy of the above lens and your use of various solvents or heat to soften them enough to allow the lens to be dismantled safely.

Tell me please:  do you use any glues to re-lock the screws when you re-assemble the lenses that you work on, and if so, what types do you employ? 

I have certainly used things such as nail varnish and have occassionally used professional thread lockers such as the various products made by Loctite for automotive and industrial uses.  I cannot recall having used two part expoxys or the like.

I seldom use locking agents but I really should! 

I use them on places where I do not want the part to get loose such as the shutter speed adjustment gears of the F/F2 and the RF cameras

I used locking agents on all of the external screws of Buddy's lens because I know how hard he uses his gear

I use a red lacquer thread locking thing called "ねじの救急車" or "screw ambulance". nail polish is OK,too. It is used by the repair shops back home to save money.

I rarely use nail polish.

I would not dare to disturb a finely tuned optic with my clumsy fingers, but your documentation of the high precision mechanics of the Nikon lenses conveys respect -both for the original makers and for your efforts.

One of the reasons why I do not own a Voigtlander 125mm APO Lanthar. Would love to take the lens for a spin, but after Bjorns comments on how fragile it is, I just accept it would be a very short spin and a very spent lens afterwards.

The funny thing is, even though it is fully acceptable stating that I am hard on my equipment by todays standards, I can't stop thinking of how these Nikkors were used back in the time they were the latest and greatest.

the RF ones that I made have a small readership but they get the best response in terms of people helped as there are almost nothing on the net talking about the Nikon RF lenses, even on the Japanese internet
