I like the colors in both, but overall prefer the soft background rendering in #1, but wish the two flowers didn't overlap. Perhaps a slight change in your perspective could have kept the soft background but given a bit more separation .

Thanks for the valuable comment.
The second shot was taken first in order of time and I took more care about the composition.
I did think about the relative position of the roses, I should have also kept the aperture more open in that one.
The first was shot with a lens, the 200 micro AIS, that produces some very nice background in the right conditions. For this one I had moved the tripod further away and in the process did not pay the due attention to the relative position of the roses.
At the end of the day, a successful image should be a mix of the two I took, unfortunately neither of them has all of the necessary elements.
Good learning though...
