Poor pictures of a very rare bird
« on: March 11, 2017, 23:16:47 »
The other day on the way to Brandon, Vermont, I saw some folks by the side of the road with scopes, obviously looking at something.  As I had on an impulse thrown the 200-500 lens in the car, I got out for a look, and there, in a flooded field, was a trumpeter swan.  This is, I'm told, only the second confirmed sighting of a trumpeter Swan ever in Vermont.  So anyway, I shot it, and submit the following for the bird lovers more than for the photo lovers.  The first shot is a pretty considerable crop from a 500 MM. D7100 shot.  The second is just plain drastic.

We had an unexpected blizzard the next day and everything has frozen solid, so I fear that poor swan had to fly away pretty soon after.

But holy cow, I sure do like that big lens!

Matthew:

How exciting to see such a rare bird in your region.  I would have done exactly the same thing!

They are more common here (Michigan), but still great fun, and really entertaining characters as well.  Hopefully you will get to see some more.

Cheers
