First Drink's On Me

First One's On Me by Ron Scubadiver, on Flickr

From a small town on the Mekong River in Laos.  Fluid is potable alcohol made from rice, about 60% alcohol, or 120 proof.

seriously ? !!! Mongo is with David on this one. Very nicely shot and presented image though. The golden light could almost lure you to drink

Have to ask - did you actually see anyone drinking this stuff ?? and does it come with a crab fork to make sure you do not miss out on the goodies inside when you are done drinking this stuff ??

LOL!  Those kinds of liquor are fairly well known in south-eastern and eastern Asia.  I haven't tasted any (I don't drink alcohol in the first place), but such liquor can be commonly seen also in China town in Yokohama, for example.

I enjoy Ron's reperesentation!  Nice lighting!

I'm more interested in why they put those creatures into the bottles. Yuk!

Hands up those who suspect/know this is a male "invention". I do.
I suspect the stronger sex could never summon the necessary madness to come up with a products like these.

Thank you gentlemen and Elsa.  I don't know how they get the creatures into the bottles, but their bodies must be flexible.  The reason why could be for looks or perhaps people really drink that stuff.  I did not see anyone drinking from that source.  The liquor itself is clear, high proof and tastes a lot like sake.  There was a still set up out back.  It looked like a piece of junk.

When I was in college we used to call anything that gross "revolting".

Well then, looking at it from that line of reasoning, the answer to my question as to why they do it, is because they can!  ;)

A good bet when wondering about these types of medicine...they are either for male virility as pointed out, or long life, or god help us, a combination of both.
This kind of thing looks benign when you see bottles filled with insects or reptiles.  It looks totally different when you see someone chainsawing the horn off a dead rhino.
Wonder what this does?
