Trumpeter on final

This fellow was imaged this morning at the local bird sanctuary.  They are free ranging birds, but like to drop in occ. to socialize.

I don't know why but the bird reminds me of the Concord on final. Very nice! I wish I had one as a guard bird. I'm sure it could keep the cats out of my backyard.

Notice the flaps are down. The tail is flared. The landing gear is down. The canards look cool. That bird knows what it's doing. Again great photograph!

As David and Akira have said, a great capture.

The downturned bill and head up stance of the bird is indeed kind of Concorde like.  Actually the various wing and feather groups are not disimilar in either form or function to the spoilers, flaps, flaperons and ailerons on the wing of a big plane.  And yes, they do make great (if somewhat noisey) watch dogs.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.  I have always been fascinated by the aerodynamics of birds, and how dynamic they are.

Thomas, I was about 80 ft away I would guess, but he was on the ice in another few meters, as the next frame at 5 fps showed him on the ice.

Although they don't roar like the Concorde, they do make a very distinctive sounds as the wing rushes through their feathers, esp. when they fly over your head!
