great photo.

I would like with less background. Did you tried with f4?

Did you tried with f4?

f/8 was needed to get the entire bird in focus given that i was about 20-25 ft from it.

Amazing shot!  The pupils are fully open...impossible in this quality just until a few years ago.

Bob - Fantastic shot!

impossible in this quality just until a few years ago.

Akira - So true.  Now is a good time to be interested in photography.

The bird is beautiful -  owls are special.

This image shows again the worth of knowing your equipment AND how to use it. Being able to push gear to get what you need and want. Your skill is aided by good gear. Good combination.

A great surprise capture for Bob, he had limited opportunity and captured a very presentable image.
As Elsa has stated, "knowing your equipment and how too use it"
Bob spoke before of the limited DOF on the 600mm, a f4 image may have put many of the feathers into a Bokeh effect.
As the in focus eyes of the owl due to posture, appears to be behind the foremost wing.

Stunning!

I assume this is cropped very little or not at all?

Every once in a while you get the light just right to support the high ISO shots... not always.
