Looks like a nice compact. Has anyone handled it yet?

John:

I am pretty sure it hasn't been released yet. Perhaps we have a beta tester on the site, but of course, they couldn't say anything about it yet !

Cheers

Randy

The Nikon DL series is currently vaporware.  Thom Hogan has written a bit about it.  Announced as if an exciting new product, but still no date of introduction, last  I checked.

I've stopped holding my breath about it many months ago. Ditto for the 18-50.
My old battered RX100 MkI will have to do.

I'm interested in the 18-50 and the 24-85 versions.  They were delayed(best of my knowledge) due to the earthquake.  I'd be interested to see how well they perform with the CX size sensor and matched optics.

I'm not really in the msrket for one, but if/when they are released, I'll do my best to try and get one for review.

I have stopped holding my breath and what not. Times have changed and my perspective is to enjoy and not wait. IF the DL series emerge I will consider it, if not I happily live on. My old Fujifilm X20 still works and does the same things it did some years ago.
We as hobby/seasoned/eager/professional photographers are just that - irrespective of the status of the camera companies.
On the other hand; new gear is like candy...not needed but oh so sweet 😊

The development of DL series has been put on the shelf due to the "significant problem", according to Nikon's announcement which had already been released before the earthquake.

"Significant problem" is my personal translation from the original Japanese announcement, but I've never seen such a word used in an announcement as a reason for the delay of the development of Nikon products.

The release date of DL series is not yet indicated on Nikon's website.

Nikon USA has quite nice sample images from the DL 24-85. The contrast, colour and flare resistance seem exemplary and in my perception the images look far better than samples from Nikon 1 cameras. Since it seems the camera has been test used to get those samples, it would seem it does work but perhaps there is a reliability issue. I hope they solve the problems soon, the images look that nice.

It would be nice if Nikon would also not release software products with significant problems, but they do.

Here is the press release from Nikon covering the delay of the DL series from April 20 this year:
In addition, the premium compact cameras, Nikon DL18-50 f/1.8-2.8, DL24-85 f/1.8-2.8, and DL24-500 f/2.8-5.6, will be delayed due to the serious issues with the integrated circuit for image processing built into the three new premium compact cameras, originally scheduled for a June 2016 release.
The new release date has yet to be determined and we will announce the information as soon as it is decided.

Some major camera sellers indicate "expected January 2017" on their websites.
And I expect image quality of the DL's to be comparable to the Nikon J5, which is not bad in my experience.

Arend, thanks!  That's the announcement I was referring to.  Its release date was a week after the earthquake which however was not the reason for the delay of the release of DL series.
