Familiar street (I lived there once upon a long time ago. With the American ambassador residence as the nearest neighbour, no less). Short duration event, but maximum impact.

Beautiful scene Sten. What kind of tree is it? A magnolia of some kind? The contrasts are enchanting :)

Not a recent photo, for sure. This is late April or early May.

I think I observe snow accumulated on the flowers?

Indeed we might have snow in Oslo at that time of the year, but falling petals are the most probable source ... The Prunus has short-lived flowers.

This is from last year when I met up with the Bear (we spent some worthwhile hours together in Bjørn's neighborhood).  I have no idea what tree this is but perhaps a cherry of some sort..?

As Bjørn stated, it's a tree in the genus Prunus, also known in English as the stone fruits due to the single large, hard, central seed in the fruit.  This group includes all the peaches, plums, almonds, cherries, and related trees and shrubs.  Despite the differences in their fruits they are quite closely related, and have very similar flowers that often put on quite a show in the springtime.  Some varieties are selected for the quality of their fruits and some for the quality of their flowers.

Sten, that photo is strikingly beautiful with the tremendous color contrast.
