Capture One Pro 10
« on: December 07, 2016, 15:56:01 »
PhaseOne have realesed Capture One Pro 10. Anyone who use this or have tried it? Especially those of you who use any of the Fujifilm X-series cameras. It is said the handling of Fujifilm RAF is improved.

Apparently it cannot yet handle Fuji compressed raw files.  This is a deal breaker for me.

Same here.
I do have the express for Sony version though (for my RX100) but not much experience using it yet.

Lyndna offer a very informed tutorial on how to navigate it and create a workflow.
Brad Hill has shared a recent article on it.
I use it more and more, it is my preferred edit software.
The Pro 10 should have a faster response and improved sharpening tools.
I believe Logic has produced a dedicated shortcuts keyboard in support of this release.

What is it that you like about Capture One?
Which Cameras do you use it for?
Where do you see the advantage compared to other options like PN, ACR, Affinity, DXO, etc... ?

I looking more into the Affinity direction, now that it is released for Windows.

Yet, today I managed to download the current versions of Nikon NX-i and NX-D ... I must say that I am impressed, given that the version number is still 1.x ... both run more stable and the geometry correction finally is useful, even with the brand new 105E ... the Noise Reduction for HighISO D500 files was very good ... the same works now much better for D600 files. Currently I feel less and less need to open the files in Photoshop after having them run through NX-D ... WOW.

Frank,

I've used CO8 & CO9, today was the first time I've used CO10 so I'm not up to speed with the specific updates just yet, but it worked just as well as the previous versions. I use both Canon & Nikon with CO. Compared to ACR/LR there are things I like better about both (Lightroom is my primary RAW editor so that is my comparison).

I prefer ACR's Highlights/Shadows/Whites/Blacks sliders compared to CO's way of doing similar adjustments.
ACR's black & white conversion is nice because it includes the orange slider where most skin tones reside, CO's skin tones are a combination of Red & Yellow channels.
Only LR/ACR can import to photoshop as a smart object.
Both LR/ACR and CO can use masks.
I like that CO has both levels & curves & the curves has a Luminosity channel so as to not effect colors.
Clarity works more naturally and has more options in CO.
The crop tool is more intuitive in CO.
CO has strong color editing tools and dedicated skin tone color tools.
CO is quick to load full resolution image previews.
CO has both a 'catalog' library to keep track of an archive worth of images as well as 'sessions' which is tailored more towards use for individual jobs so you don't end up with a large convoluted catalog that can slow things down.

CO seems to have been designed around tethered shoot and it excels at it, the camera becomes an extension of the program, or vice versa. This alone makes CO worth it if you shoot tethered frequently, and this is why I use the program. Though it did not replace LR/ACR. I like both.

I think you misunderstood me. I do not use Capture One. That is why I asked for others experience.
I use Nikon or Fujifilm cameras. I used Nikon a lot in the past, but lately since a couple of weeks I use a fujifilm camera mostly.
