WOW!
Joost, this is spectacular!

Afterthought :

There is just the right amount of minute detail to make it look "real"; that's probably the main reason from my own WOW.

Wonderful capture and processing!  It reminds me of a nice ink painting.  I also like the sense of space.

Thank you all for your kind remarks!

About the making : we went to the Benidorm-region for some rock climbing & hiking. One day while driving to the crag, we passed a picturesque town, and thought it would be nice to come back there another day to make an early morning picture. So the following day we got out of bed before dawn (which is not too hard in november), and drove to the spot where this town can be seen from a distance. As I was installing my tripod, I casually glanced at my right-hand side, and then I saw this light show in the mountains. We forgot about the town, and changed plans. I think the quality of the light is the most important aspect of the scene, but also using a longer objective (300 mm) has been instrumental for the result. My girl friend used a 28-105mm for the same scene, and there the result was far less rewarding.

Long lenses are enjoyable for landscapes, in fact, much more so than the usually preferred wide angles. At least mountains keep their visual impact, as evidenced in an exemplary manner in this thread.

Immediately loved this picture for its simplicity and convincing reduction. Perfect moment!
