Island of Lesvos August 2014
« on: October 09, 2016, 18:13:25 »
I spent a week in August 2014 on this island. I stayed at Molivos (ancient name Mithymna), considered the most scenic village of the island.
It was a relaxing week and the sea food was delicious.
All photos with D810.
1. For ouzo drinkers.
2. Church just above the sea
3. View from the castle
4. Boats in the harbor
5. Taverna on the waterfront
6. Molivos

Thanks Jakov,
Lesvos is one of the bigger Greek islands (third if I am not mistaken) and a big
percentage of the visitors are bird watchers/photographers. At the time of my visit I did not have a lens appropriate for birds.
I am attaching 3 more photos.

Elsid, thanks for posting, these bring back happy Aegean memories, although I was never on Lesvos itself.

Thanks Elsa. Travel and photography go hand in hand but, with the financial situation in Greece, I cannot travel as often as I did in the past.

Nice series. I like Crete in the Aegean Islands.....I like Crete mountains and the food.

The praying lady attracted my attention both in terms of set up but most importantly the colours.

My curiosity was rewarded when I found out that this pic was shot with the venerable Zeiss 21 ZF2.

Beautiful colour rendition......maybe it needs some keystoning to give it it's full potential.

OK Peter, here are some more.
Almass, the ZF2 2.8/21 is an excellent lens. The shot of the lady with the candle was spontaneous. I entered the church, I saw her and
immediately I raised the camera and took the picture. On an impulse.

Posted with permission of elsid.

The pic was retouched to guide the eye towards the hero which is the Lady lighting the candle. All else is environmental.

- Burn: Left glass pane - Brass pots - Sand pit - Both windows - Bottom wood panel - Candles Wicks.

- Dodge: The Lady face and top wood panel.

- Keystone and Parallax correction to have the wood flush horizontally and respecting the Verticals and Horizontals.

- Color Correction to match the Lady face to the temp of the candles and create one color harmony in the image.

Thanks Francis,
The restaurants are not expensive by Greek standards. The sea food is delicious. If you go to Lesvos (or any other island) go in June. Less
tourists, less expensive and you get more attentive service.
