West Coast Flower tour
« on: September 05, 2016, 16:19:17 »
This time of the year - our West Coast boasts the most beautiful display of flowers and is quite unique. Visitors come from all over the world to witness this display. I did a tour this weekend - and got so much more than bargained for.

Did someone plant or specially cater for those beautiful carpets of flowers?

I know the native inhabitants of North America did so as you can read in this book:

You are out there. You and your camera. You can shoot or not shoot as you please. Discover the world, Your world. Show it to us. Or we might never see it.

High biodiversity, a special climate, and restricted land use combine to make the floral fireworks on the West Coast.

Elsa, good to see you hit flower development on time once again :D

Thanks everyone.

Frank - Bjørn is correct - he visited last year and experienced the show himself.

“Fynbos” (Fine bush) is the world renowned natural vegetation of the Cape Floral kingdom which is found in a 100 – 200km coastal belt and had been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Of the world’s six floral kingdoms, this is the smallest and richest per unit of area.

The Fynbos is extremely diverse, with more than 9000 species occurring in the coastal belt, and about 6200 of these are endemic.

Any photographer interested in Botany in any form, fine art photography, insects and butterflies or landscapes, will find this tour informative and enjoyable.

Elsa, your country is so beautiful.  I think of safari, but there is so much more.

So much to do, so little time.

Thank you Anthony - yes - and the Cape Region has so much to offer. The problem is - exactly as you say - too little time.
We have something here for ANY kind of photographer.

Lovely images Elsa (and Bjørn).

The coastal areas of Western Australia similarly come alive with wild flowers at this time of the year.  A trip over there is on my short list.  It is a pity that it is a five hour plane ride from Melbourne plus several more hours of driving.  Oh well, no gain without pain as they say.
