Right on the money. It is Maple Syrup.....as this is the American version.

But.........next week I am having our real English Breakfast minus the Pancakes and Maple Syrup..... and add the Baked Beans, Tomatoes and of course Black Pudding.....and Fried Bread...... I am hesitant in posting the pics in respect to Mango's arteries  ;D

However, I will post my favourite Brekkie......... Fried Bread smothered with lashes of Nutella on one side and Peanut Butter on the opposite side with slashes of Fried Streaky Bacon in between.........
...........And that is a real Brekkie

Dearest Mike - new (and plenty thereof) research shows that the only heart attack on that plate is the crumpets and syrup. Eggs and bacon is seriously high on the healthy list. Fried in butter/fat of course.

Low carb healthy fat is king - low fat is so fast seeing its derriere  ;D

Darling Elsa, I'm so glad you've put me on the right track, I shall hence forth really enjoy a full English brekkie.  8)

Just to nit pick they look awfully like pancakes to me and not crumpets which I also like, as I said yummy. And the bacon looks just how I like it, nice and crispy.  ;D

Elsa, you are so right.  I have proved this to myself over the last twelve months.

I do miss sweet, luscious carbs, but my bathroom scales, heart rate and blood pressure do not.

But sometimes I sin.

I always thought that's exactly what a crumpet looks like? According to local usage (which is not necessarily correct) a pancake is made from roughly the same dough but is as large as a dinner plate and 3-4mm thick at most?

And once more not necessarily correct, but it is my understanding that a flapjack is an American crumpet, which tends to be slightly larger than a crumpet, but probably just because that's the American way?

Peter - I know the smaller thicker ones as crumpets or flapjacks (same thing) but that's in SA - :)

Dear friends,

To continue your culinary education these are crumpets!

I've been eating them for many a year now. Anthony will back me upon this one!

Mike is correct.  Sadly, such delights rarely form part of my diet these days.

The crumpets look like what is sold in the USA as 'English Muffins'.
Agree that, in general, the starchy stuff is the best thing not to eat.
