It's quite beautiful and well seen by you.

Is it really a message left for us by aliens ??   - if so, what does it say ?

These lichens have been known for centuries. Very fascinating organisms, or rather small embedded near self-contained ecosystems, with a peculiar dispersal mechanism (by spore-containing faecal pellets deposited by tiny mites, no less). They are extremely resistant to pollution and have seen use as bio-monitoring agents.

Even better to know that our leader is also very knowledgeable about non- photographic matters such as these matters pertaining to the natural world. Thanks Bjørn - Mongo  just learned something more specific about lichens

Thanks for your comments Mongo, John, Bjørn, Akira, Elsa and Jan-Petter!

I've added a few shots showing the habitat of these aliens.

I did have my macro lens with me - next time I will use it.

Great to know our leader speaks and writes alien !    ;D

It does not come as a surprise..  ;D

Erik - I agree. Being a member of NG that mantra should of course have rooted itself in the photog part of my brain by now...  ;)

I visited this place again yesterday - this time I got a little closer. Unfortunately I only had time for a few quick handheld shots.
