Elsa, you have excelled yourself;  I like birds in this down wing pose.

Best viewed large.  This bird is a really muscley critter when viewed up close & personal.

Thank you Hugh :)

Beautiful, given that the D800 is not a machine gun that runs of 10 frames per second giving you plenty to choose from.

Agree with Hugh on the wing pose.

Thanks Fanie

Thing is - I dont know any better - so for me the 4/5 frames just does the job as I thought it should do. Neither have I worked with a prime long lens - so for me the 200-500 is magic - ignorance is bliss haha

Yes that is skill.

Just get a 200-500 :)

I was using Df with AFS 300mm f/4D + TC-14EII ~ 420mm so the 200-500mm would improve reach by a bit...

Yes the 200-500 is in the plan, but with D500 as well...  a bit of spray and pray may be coming my way...

But I play UW as well, so have to budget and wait...

But now I have one more reason to get the 200-500mm... :)

Impressive image Elsa

you make me want to go and look if I can get that lens ...
which leads to wanting to have a garden like yours ...
hmm ...
that leads to a longer morning commute
ok ... never mind

Very impressive BIF. What a pose; as if it can fly through a wall!

The combination of a D800 and the AFS 300/4 + TC-14EII can also be quite useful for birds in flight. Here a razorbill:

Birding seems possible now with a smaller budget, been following the 200-500 activity with interest, thanks for the fine examples
