Newly released Photo Ninja 1.3.4 & D500
« on: July 13, 2016, 10:53:19 »
Coming from 1.3.3c I do not see much progress in D500 development. NX-D still seems the tool of choice. Esp the color consistency of the camera is not accordingly addresed.

My next step: record new color profiles for mixed lighting situations and see where they take me.

Test file (first PN, second NX-D:

You are out there. You and your camera. You can shoot or not shoot as you please. Discover the world, Your world. Show it to us. Or we might never see it.

Actually I prefer the PN version of the two as the NX-D seems flat and dull in comparison. Are colour spaces equal for both? Browsers even the colour-aware ones apparently don't like the extended gamut provided by ProPhoto RGB and the like.

Agree that PictureCode often lags with their handling of new cameras in PN, and in particular, the colour rendition. Took PN almost 1 year to do the Df files to satisfaction and there are occasions for which I still have to assist a little in the final rendering (greens seem to be the most problematic range).

So far I've done most of my D500 files in PN and learned to live with the coarser definition, as I find NX-D unbearably slow even on high-spec hardware.

On my machine PN is much slower than NX-D

Win10pro/x64
2 x 8 core double xeon
Hyperthreading
64 GB RAM

I have several Win7Pro/64, 2*4 Xeon, 32GB RAM, hyperthreading, all SSD-based systems. The core software setup is identical, but each of them has specialised functionality. On each and every one of them NX-D is, like the NX2 predecessor, unbelievably slow. PN flies. So does all other software.

PN had issues with networked drives earlier that could delay its start up, and browsing these drives were quite slow. However, these problems were taken care of in the 1.3.x versions so now there is almost no difference between local and network drives provided a gigabit network is in use.
