Insects among the Milkweed

A small moth about an inch or so long and a fly no larger than a mosquito but a bit beefier, each on milkweed leaves. Both were shot with a 105 2.8 G with a 1.4 teleconverter attached. I find this combination very handy for walking around the garden and grabbing shots of small creatures.

I like both but the fly is something else - lovely framing and composition

Hi Elsa, thanks for your nice comments.

That little fly shines gold when the sun is out but when it is cloudy, a more nuanced color combination comes to light (as it were). This shot doesn’t show the wings’ iridescence but here’s a shot that does. Right after I took the second shot I noticed the red ant racing up the leaf towards the fly causing the fly to take off. The third shot, while blurry, is one of my few proper IIF shots (insect in flight), which are always tougher to get than BIF as I’m sure you will agree!

I cant even get an insect sitting on it's arse - nevermind an IIF...

Anyway - that blurry insect will be right up Jakov's alley
