Images look good has a bit of an off set amber to it, I had a Tokina ATX 24-40 that the glass started turning an amber color that produced transparency shots with a slight off amber tone that I couldn't control back in the film days.

with the lenses mentioned in this thread, it is usually the colour more than any other feature (e.g. sharpness or bokeh) that people really notice differences in, if any, from their usual Nikons. Canons etc.

This lens is probably the equivalent of the   Cosina/Soligor/Tamron  19-35mm  AF  which I have used with the 810 and is widely available on ebay sub £100

007-2 by longzoom, on Flickr     Yes, Gentlemen, it is not contemporary lens, by any means. But it is still delivering, less or more, as you can see. Thank you for your comments!  LZ

Just for those curious.  Got the Tamron lens and went out today.  Less than optimal conditions, but the Df handled the lens without issue.  I think once i get some good light and really get a good subject in front of the lens,  I will even more happy with it.
