Photoshop 2015.5 / 17 is out.
« on: June 25, 2016, 17:56:22 »
Photoshop has gone from version 16 to 17, although still part of the 2015 series, it is an upgrade, not an update.  Considering last year's debacle with the extremely buggy Ps 2015 needing a major update by July, the prudent might want to wait with this one.  Except for Ps, CC applications no longer have a single file installer and require an online installation.  In an effort to fight piracy, offline activation has been removed.  Just what organizations, like defense contractors, who maintain a sterile network without internet access are supposed to do, is beyond me.

CC just introduced 2015.5 without letting the results know, and it will disable all the plugins and other things as CC is stored suddenly in a different directory.  I would suggest not to do an upgrade.

I upgraded my iMac and my old Macbook Air with no problems.

Before doing so, I copied my existing plug-ins to a separate folder.  When the new version was installed, I then copied them into the plug-in folder of the new version.  All are working perfectly.  In addition, all my preferences and actions were preserved.

Interestingly, the installation had preserved the plug-ins folder from the previous version, despite deleting the rest of that version.  But I would suggest copying them first to avoid the risk.

Lots of bug reports, especially with new features or things where new features were added.  I expect a major bugfix update this Summer.  I believe there is an advanced tab in the installer that allows you to keep the old version.
