Sigma 50-150/2.8 APOEXDCOSHSM

Just got this to mate with my D500. So far (after mandatory AF fine-tune) I've found it to be amazingly sharp, fast AF that also works with non-centre AF sensors.
Here's a drive by shot of a local scavenger (98mm focal length, cropped to ca. 25% of the frame).

Fine photography! Tell us more about this lens Sten. Is it too heavy to be handheld? It is almost 1.5kg, right?

Sigma did make a 50-150/2.8 lens - a DX equivalent of 70-200 zooms. This was a moderate size lens, similar  to the 70-200/4 VR.

It was later replaced by a version with optical stabilisation (OS). This lens is much bigger (looks identical to their 70-200 OS) which negates the advantage of the smaller DX format. Looks like Sten is using this version.

I have the OS version and it is larger than I'd like for a DX cam but the results have been worth it to me. It's an outstanding performer.

I also have this version.  Because of the size I tend not to take it out, but from my limited experience I really like its rendering.  Bokeh is superb wide open.

The naming of lenses from certain brands has gone too far. Period. 🙃
It is correct that this lens is the same size as its 70-200 sibling. Big for DX but I got this for a specific purpose where a 70-200 would be too long. Besides, getting such optical performance for 465 USD incl. shipping made it a no brainer. The lens is LNIB. I will add some observations regarding AF fine tuning later.

Nice examples! I'd say that size is about the only drawback this lens brings forward. Everything else is good...including the tripod collar/foot.

Thanks, Sten!  Yes, the tripod foot is rock-solid - this is one area where Sigma most definitely does not take after Nikon.
