This was one of a group of photos I took during a walk in my neighborhood to try out a new (to me) 180mm f/2.8 ED AIS on my Df. I took this at f/2.8, the lens's maximum aperture. I anticipated that the subject would probably stand out against an out-of-focus background, but I was surprised by extent to which the shallow depth of field of this lens at that aperture, combined with a background some distance behind the subject, lent an impression of depth and three-dimensionality to this two-dimensional image. Conclusion -- yes, this lens works.
