Fujifilm X-T1 - new firmware 4.0
« on: June 21, 2015, 22:09:23 »
Just installed this and it does make the X-T1 a "new" camera.
AF options are vastly expanded and I will over the next few days post my findings here.
So far:
- viewfinder grid lines are thinner, hence less obtrusive.
- Eye AF works...sort of. Im gegenlicht not so well. But it is miles better than without this feature.

Apparently these Fujifilm as really popular among photographers, I see them all the time and they are always very prised for their adequately high performance.

Often the owner states; Leica M is too expensive to buy and try out so they don't bother looking into them...

Looking forward to your findings Sten!

Already available? Or are you an adventurer?
I am looking forward to reading your findings before I install the firmware, probably next week.
But on the same time, my only AF lens is the 18-55 kit lens, very good btw...

Where did you find 4.0? I took a quick look on the official Fujifilm site and the latest is 3.1.

I love my Fuji cameras.

There was a Beta 4.0 published by some bloke on FB and spread around. The latest rumor is FUJI is releasing it on June 29th.

I think I will wait until the official final version is released.  No point in risking my camera for the sake of a few days.

I've just installed it, the official version is out from today.

Had not time to play with it, the day was full of other interesting things to do.
But I did come across the mini-site Fuji made to explain the AF options available, which I think worth sharing in case you have not already seen it:

Does anyone use Nikon lenses on the XT-1?  If so, how does it work?

I do use MF lenses:
- 16mm f/2.8 AI fisheye
- 28mm f/2 AI
- 105mm f/2.5 AIS
- 75-150 f/3.5 Series E

and also a 50mm f/1.4 AF-D.
With a straight adapter and with a Lens Turbo 2.

No AF of course, and I only use aperture priority and manual mode.
The new firmware did not help!
focusing is quite easy with the EVF with the provided assistance, more so than with the OVF of my D700.

I mostly use the 105 with lens turbo for portraits. When I need a really wide field of view I mount the fisheye with the straight adapter.
for most of the rest the very good 18-55mm kit lens is easier.
