Karoo
« on: April 24, 2016, 14:09:18 »
Karoo Tour -  is a semi-desert natural region of South Africa.  The Karoo is partly defined by its topography, geology, and climate — above all, its low rainfall, arid air, cloudless skies, and extremes of heat and cold. The Karoo also hosted a well-preserved ecosystem hundreds of million years ago which is now represented by many fossils.
Today it is still a place of great heat and frosts, and an annual rainfall of between 50–250 mm, though on some of the mountains it can be 250–500 mm higher than on the plains.

Wow, nice pictures of what seems to be a great region with quite some geographical diversity !!!

Thank you Jacques. South Africa is absolutely diverse - it is a country worth visiting and photographing. And the people are hospitable (I recon Bjørn will concur)  ;D

Three lovely shots that could just as equally have been from out of somewhere in Australia.  I very much like the 2nd with the two lambs and the way they are lit.  They are in what looks like saltbush to me - an apparently nutricious plant for sheep here in Australia.

Very cool separations through color and lighting.

Thank you Hugh - I was very lucky with the light - it disappeared quickly as you can imagine. And so did the lambs.
Thank you Frank.
it was literally the last light. And then it was gone. I waited for it on the road. Lucky timing.

All of them are super nice and I bet those little lamb chops will taste exquisite too.

Quite a lot of vegetation given the low annual precipitation. But I have learned by direct interaction that African species are hardy.

Thank you Bjørn for looking and commenting. You can not believe how much we have seen lately.
The vegetation is very hardy and drought resistant - although we have had severe droughts recently - the veld is looking surprisingly good.
Regarding the lamp chops - I prefer mutton :) mush tastier  ;D
