I had a problem on Monday
« on: April 20, 2016, 02:33:23 »
On Monday my neighborhood flooded.  This time I was 20 cm above the water, last time it was 8 cm below.  The entire area is a wreck now.  The water had started to recede when I took this, earlier it was to deep to go out.

Ron,

I thought about you and wondered if you were even in the neighborhood this time.

I am North of Houston at the moment and fortunately just far enough that we missed the heaviest of the rains.  Guess we were both lucky.

Some friends were at another RV park in our network that borders the Colorado River in Columbus.  The lower third of the park was under water.  Worse yet, the ~40cm of rain that they received washed out the concrete bridge on the only way in or out.  Basically, everyone is locked in there until the park devises a bridging solution.
Regards,
Bill Oliver

What is wrong exactly? Heavy rain? Flood of a river? I hate water in the house in places where it is not supposed to be. We had that at my Grandparent's house several times.

My greatest sympathy for you there.

Bill, as you know, there was flooding all over Houston.  I have not heard reports from other areas.  Frank, there has been uncontrolled development here.  The area is flat and detention ponds are needed, but developers have been very good at getting around the rules and the city doesn't seem to care.

Very sorry, I hope you stay above the water level - flooded out twice would be really horrible.

Houston...to hot, too wet, to dry, to cold...hmmm, why do I still like the place?
I am sorry to learn about yet another bad incident on those Quarternary sediments you live on and hope you and my friends who live there are back to normal asap.

Du you insinuate that cheques were written or stuffed briefcases changed owners? That seems to be the case worldwise when it comes to construction...

Thank you everyone.  My house is dry, but many of my neighbors are upset.  Last may 750 homes flooded in my subdivision.  This time around I am guessing 500, but around 150 of those have not been repaired since last May.  There is major fooding outside of the city of Houston and in other parts of the city.

Sten, are you a geologist ?

Ron will know the facts, but isn't Texas is famous for not having zoning(building regulation) laws?.  It is the intention of the Founding Fathers of the United States, many of whom were real estate speculators, that the the ownership of property be completely divorced from any responsibility over what is done with the property.
