Newt nuptials
« on: April 03, 2016, 21:22:17 »
It took me a little today to understand why the newts in my pond appeared much more numerous than usual and also much less skittish...  ;)
The AW1/10mm/fisheye converter combination is endless entertainment.

Ditto!

Thank you both!

This image, and one or two others, were shot in "spray and pray" more.
That is, continuous AF, 5fps and no idea of what the camera was seeing exactly (it was immersed, I was above water and refraction did not allow me to see the screen).

Simone, rest assured that had you even been submerged together with the camera you would not have seen a thing. At least that is my experience. Underwater shooting has always been blind to me...

I snorkeled and shot with a RX100 in a plexiglass enclosure.
In that case there were tons of reflective surfaces if you couple this with the refractive index of water, I tend to agree.
Maybe with the AW1 things could be a bit better. Summer is coming and "soon" I'll know.

So nice to see! As a trained herpetologist, specializing in salamanders, I love newts! I especially love the red-orange eft-stage (land stage) of the Common Newt in the eastern U.S.

Thanks for posting these.

I don't have time to find my photos, but here is one I clipped out of one of my books, just to remind us of what the eft stage looks like.

Unfortunately smooth newts, as those I showed, at no stage of their life change into such a brilliant orange form.

Fantastic shots, a magical world in your garden.

The AW1 is one of the most important cameras of recent years, making possible photographs that could not have been contemplated before without expensive specialist equipment.

Well done!

Last time I saw newts in my surroundings was 50 years ago. Pollution, etc. drove them away. Sigh.

Very well done! Also a good reminder that spring is approaching in the aquatic environment and waiting for the AW1/10mm/fisheye converter combination.

Thank you Anthony.

I had not thought about it that way, but now that you mention it I cannot but agree on the AW1.
