Ballet rehearsal (1)
« on: April 03, 2016, 18:01:26 »
Three ballerinas lost in a studio, the fourth missing (school holidays I guess). On the other hand, we're having the first springtime-like day here. No pressure, no stress. At work : the Df + 24-70/2.8 (the old one), which is a must-have under such circumstances, given its fast AF. I wish the range were reaching 105 to 120, but f/2.8 is too useful to be ignored (either when speed is needed, or for the sheer pleasure of subject isolation). Better be limited to 70 and crop every now and then. Here I used the 2.8-5.6 range.

On the downside, the AF zone of the Df is really ridiculously small for such circumstances. Ballerinas often dance in pairs (a.k.a. duets) , and that's the trouble.

By the way I tested the Sigma 204-105/4 VR yesterday : excellent, on fixed subjets at least. More about that in another thread.

The second and third stand out for me, definitely. The girls are so well positioned, there is just enough motion blur to create a strong sense of dynamic... very enjoyable!

Thanks Olivier. Indeed, having speeds about 4 times the FL works well for getting sharp bodies and blurry extremities, suggesting movement without disfiguring the persons. Here, with a zoom, the auto ISO setting "+2" works very well.
