larger target...

The NEF's were processed in Adobe ACR and input into PS then reduced to 8bit, 100dpi jpegs and resized (in the opposite order).. The only correction was to EQUALLY apply the color checker correction to all images in ACR camera adjustment by selecting the camera profile created from the ISO=100 image i posted. By the way, it was a minor adjustment to the color. AWB 1 was used in camera under continuous 6500K light.

Noise reduction was shut off in camera - No long exposure NR or High ISO NR.

No photoshop exposure adjustment, sharpening, noise reduction, etc...

Bob: Are these 100% crops or reduced from 20MP to Web size?

If the 51200 is a 100% crop it is a very pretty proof foradvancement in performance above ISO3200. Very smooth, grain like, no, chroma noise...

For real world in the wild performance I am very impresssed by the bear series by Ole J. Liodden: http://oleliodden.com/photo-gear/field-reviews/beta-test-report-nikon-d5/
You are out there. You and your camera. You can shoot or not shoot as you please. Discover the world, Your world. Show it to us. Or we might never see it.

Thank you Bob, looks great to me.

Inspired by your effort and the rainy day here, I wandered along memory lane to provide us with samples from a 11 years old D2HS: http://nikongear.net/revival/index.php/topic,3307.0.html

Just for fun, and to appreciate what we have now.  ;)
