Nikkor 13mm f/5.6, FAKE eBay Listing
« on: March 23, 2016, 23:01:16 »
This is the 3rd time that lens #175913 has appeared on eBay, listed by a seller with a zero or very low feedback score. Always using the same images from an original listing back in 2014.

eBay scamming is popular I see. They probably succeed to relieve gullible customers of their money as well.

Very true Bjørn.
I can't believe that there are people dumb-enough to place bids on the item!
One of the bidders has a feedback score of over 9000, perhaps an agent.

When such blatant scams are repeated, this is for a reason. Namely, the scammer got money the previous time and wants to try again.

I've already reported the listing to eBay, but I doubt they'll take it down.

In April last year the same images were used in a listing that ended with a sale price of US$11,000!!
Needless to say, the seller couldn't follow-through with the sale so negative feedback was left.

Having verified the serial numbers on the current listing and the April 13, 2015 listing I scanned the current listing page for "report" and having found it I reported the current listing as a suspected fraud. It's quick and easy to do. Maybe if they get a few reports eBay will investigate the seller.

Did they come out looking good?  I have one of these lenses and maybe I could photograph my own feet.  Both of them, too!  ;D ;D

I was wearing shoes so I don't know.

Does Nikon's full EXIF data include serial numbers? Now I know Ai and Ai-s Nikkor won't offer serial numbers but what about lenses with CPU(s) and DSLR(s)? Is it good practice to strip EXIF data?

Only the Serial number of the camera is recorded in Exif.

I don't care who sees my serial numbers, you can so easily guess them! Why bother with that ;)

After well over 30 bids that reached close to US$6500, eBay finally pulled the listing.
