We'll Meet Again
« on: March 21, 2016, 22:27:47 »
These are from an on-again-off-again project of street portraits, titled We"ll Meet Again.  Most of my street photos are candid shots, but every now and then I come across a compelling or unusual subject and will ask for permission to take their picture.

Merry Saturday - Austin, Texas

Elvis At the Oasis - Dallas, Texas

St. Charles Street - New Orleans

Carnival - Stephenville, Texas

Zombie - Fort Worth, Texas

My favourite is the man in New Orleans playing a littlke dog like a Banjo. Great interplay with three characters! BTW: I love all your shots anyway ... Why exactely did you sell the GR???

Thanks for the comments.

Frank, I owned the GRD II, which I bought for the Riding the Rails project.  I sold the camera because at a higher ISO of 400, the camera struggled.  Still, it was a mistake on my part to sell it.  However, the latest GR has a much larger sensor in the same body and the higher ISO performance is much, much better.  I do a lot of work in low light and having a camera that can produce decent images in low light is a big plus for me.  So, I will be purchasing a Ricoh GR in the next couple of weeks.  I can't wait as I am trying to start work on documenting a punk rock band located in the Fort Worth area.  The Ricoh GR would be perfect for that.

How high can the new GR go in ISO? I am always searching for small cameras that normal people feel to be just point & shoot.

My X100T is still usable at max. ISO of 6400...

If I am not mistaken, I believe it can go as high as 25,000, which I doubt I would ever use.  If I can get clean shots at ISO 6400 or slightly higher, I would be more than happy.

The Ricoh GR line of cameras are a street shooter's dream.  Small, compact, excellent menus which are easily navigated, and the lens is super sharp.  Plus, the camera is built like a small tank.

Rick,
As usual, these are very well seen and beautifully captured.
And as with so many of your pictures, these pose more questions than they answer, compelling the viewer to keep coming back.
My favorite? The first one.
Good stuff.

I want to thank everyone for the comments.

As I mentioned before, I do very little of this type of street photography.  But every now and then I spot someone who is very interesting looking and I ask if they will pose.  These are some of the results.  As an example, the zombie fellow was at a Halloween event in downtown Fort Worth when I spotted him and asked to take his picture.  He shifted his eyes to the right and that is the pose he struck, which was just about damn near perfect.  It is the same with the guy in the first shot.  I spotted him on the street in Austin during an anti-war protest, of all things, and I asked to take his picture.  Without hesitation,  he raised his sign and put his harmonica to his mouth, and that was the pose he gave me.

Thanks, once again.
