Barns - inspired by Lowell
« on: June 20, 2015, 21:50:13 »
Inspired by Lowell's post (http://nikongear.net/revival/index.php?topic=232.0;topicseen) about a barn, i remembered some barns i'd shot on a holiday some years ago (Austria).

Going by some comments in the thread, people like to see more context around such a barn. Of course, it has to be B&W.

So, you can shoot one barn and its relation to the town. Then you can shoot another barn and its relation to the town. After that, it might be good to show the interrelation between the barns. And finally, the barns, the town in their relation to the whole valley (i wanted to place the text in between the pictures, but i couldn't pull it off).

Hello Hans
I miss Austria...
The opposition between the low contrast backgrounds and the contrasty barns is very enjoyable

I like the contrast between derelict and decent

Hans,

As I mentioned, I love barns.  I really like the B&W renditions and the context is also great.  I especially like the one with the church in the background.  I thought that things would be all nice and neat in Austria.  So many, around here, let their barns just collapse away and then they leave their old cars nearby.  So many yards are simply Junkyards.  Since I seem to like "up close," do you have any closer?

By the way, your context is interesting and mine is just plain horrid!

I like barns.

Hans,

In this close-up image, the texture and patterns of the weathered wood is appealing to me.  The context, however, in this shot is not as interesting as the first images.  I'll state the obvious,  Part of the problem of course is the 'tiny' image we typically use in a place like this forum.  With a large print for example we could have both.

Thanks for posting.  I like old derelict barns!

Yeah, i get that. It's the ever present trade off, until i win the lottery and can afford one of those 80Mpix backs. Perhaps other trade offs will then face me  ;)

Thanks, it seems i like them too. I've noticed in my database that i have more of those. I'll start another topic of one very unlike these that i found in France a couple of years ago.

I like #2. The gray background and high contrast barn works out well.

Thanks Gary.

#2 is actually one of my favourites from this series as well.
