Hi - also from So CA
« on: February 18, 2016, 19:46:27 »
Just wanted to say hello. Was referred to this site and am anxious to learn more about Nikon gear as it applies to my interests.

Have been shooting exclusively Canon since 2008, but last month I changed platforms from the Canon 7D to the (now) Nikon D810.
I do primarily wildlife macro photography.
I was using a Sigma 180 APO macro on the end of my Canon 7D, but now I'm going to be using a Nikon 300 mm at the end of the D810 for close-up work.

For even closer macro shooting (1:1 and beyond), involving subjects that don't tend to move much, I am going to be using the Voigtländer 125 APO, as well as all-manual Nikon primes (50mm, 35mm, 28mm) mounted on reverse-rings.

Hope to learn more about Nikon gadgetry and techniques here, thank you.

You have indeed come the right spot in cyberspace. To be honest, also had been if you kept your Canon gear. Nikons are nice but not a prerequisite for participating on NG. As long as you, the photographer, are well served by our camera, all is well no matter what brand label it carries.

I think the population density of APO-Lanthars is pretty high here on NG as well.

Appreciate that.

There are several discussions on the 125 APO-Lanthar

Michael Erlewine has 3 copies, so had I but now am down to just 2. Sold the third sample a few days ago. A number of our European members own the 125 APO too. Plus the two other siblings, 90/3.5 and 180/4 APO-Lanthars are seen as well.
