Akira, perhaps I should have removed the periwinkles and claimed it be a moon shot! I'm left to wonder how these features form on a flat sandstone surface many hundreds of metres square, and just why there is no visible growth on this surface that is underwater for a considerable portion of each day...do we have any geologists or marine biologists on board??

Anyway, if you found this little beautiful sand castle in such a vast area, I cannot help appreciating your keen eyes!

I decided to try out monochromes on  the Olympus E-M1 III with a couple of twists.  I used the setting for a software "red filter" (which I thought might use just the red pixels).  The resulting JPGs were in color which surprised me, but mainly red with a little yellow.  So I guess the other pixels weren't entirely neglected in JPG processing.  At the same time I used an actual red (25A) filter on the lens, an Olympus 40-150 f/2.8, to try to emphasize the red pixels.

In raw processing I still had to desaturate, but it was off a nearly monochrome image produced by a monochrome setting.  So, I'm going to post in this thread since the camera setting said "monochrome".

I do remember it was very cold and rather low light levels for the D2X, which wasn't too fond of high ISO settings. I kept ISO at 400 and was helped by a very fast lens and the stability of my Sachtler tripod.

Here is another moochrome in muted blue-greys, taken with the same camera and lens a few hours earlier. Grey alder Alnus incana in a riperian forest, with fresh wind-driven snow.
