Beautiful dog, the skin was so close to the color of the sand in the evening.

Nikon d500 and 70-200 fl, I think fully open.

Venus Transit and the Midnight Sun. Arctic Norway. Mostly red. Fiery red in fact.

(D800, AFS 200/2 + TC20.3 and Astro Solar filter to prevent myself going blind and the camera sensor to catch fire. The latter happened to my D70 during the '04 Transit !!)

In case one wonders about the planet Venus, it's the small dot on the solar disc at 11 o'clock. As it happens, that is almost the size of Earth too.

Cormorant blues - not quite monochrome but I think it qualifies.  John

very nice shot, reminds me to take more cormorant shots in my neighbourhood. We gave Swans, Ducks, several Gull varieties and Cormorants and Egrets here fishing in the Rhine River...

Thanks Frank.  This is cormorant time for me, when they're fishing around the Locks that connect Seattle's lakes to the sea.  Dozens roost in the park nearby, but they'll thin out as the herons gather to nest in the same trees in a few weeks.  They're very skillful at fishing, so much so that they sometimes end up feeding marauding gulls as well.

We were going to photograph birds, so all I needed was a long lens, at least that's what I thought.
Just before departure I decided to put the light 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5 AF in my backpack.

Came in handy for this shot, and I have to say, the humble oldtimer continues to amaze me.
