I suppose selfies fall under self-portraits but self-portraits cannot be considered selfies :)

Aha. Boolean logic. Impeccable analysis.

"Portrait" has connotations of strong attention to technical and artistic issues.

"Selfie" has connotations of being casual, relaxed, and, importantly, of the photographer holding the camera.

I think it is useful to draw this distinction, but others may disagree.

I intended this as a self portrait but just as I pressed the shutter I heard a crack and I had been turned into a Lego man  8)

A double-exposure portrait using my Nikon D300, then enhanced in PC using Nik software.

An "environmental" self-portrait as captain at the helm of my land-yacht home with the first mate awaiting orders to shove off (or more accurately "are you going to start this thing so i have to hide under the dash again?").

Members of the previous incarnation of NG may recall a similar image there in my previous motor home.

Bill Oliver
