Jonathan Livingstone Is Alive
« on: February 01, 2016, 20:44:10 »
This was shot about a mile from my home. Equipment used was D810+Nikon 300/4E+TC-20E III.

Here is another one with the same equipment. Both taken hand held.

It is a very striking portrait of this seagull. He looks rather regal, doesn't he? (Or she....)

Andrea, thank you for your comment. I do not know if it is a he or she, But my bet would be a he, because of the regal posture, as you
correctly diagnosed.

that BIF is really great !!!
My April resolution is to do more BIF's - thanks for the inspiration.

their babies are quite different in looks - and they bite.
When you get close to them - the parents dive bomb you and sh•t on you (or your camera gear....)

Thank you Elsa. I have not searched for a nest yet, but I will be very careful when I find one. As you like BIFs
here are some more:

That first one is striking.

I've always learned that Sea Gulls don't exist. :D
The Chroicocephalus Ridibundus is a Black-headed Gull (breeding plumage). The others are Black-headed Gulls as well, but no breeding plumage :)

The first one is a Lesser Black-backed Gull
The last one is a European Herring Gull

Thanks, we should introduce your Greek seagull to my English seagul!

The black headed gull is beautiful and very different

We have a kelp gull (Babies posted earlier) - they look very similar to yours apart from the eye (its in shadow here - not quite as dark)
and second image is a Larus hartlaubii (Harlaub's Gull) quite a bit smaller and less forward in manner
