Peraliya, Sri Lanka. On the 26th of December 2004 over 1000 people died in this train when it was knocked over and submerged by the tsunami...only 900 bodies were recovered. I took this seven months after the event, recovery/clean-up efforts were still underway at that time. Camera was a 3mb Ricoh RDC-7.

Hans, it must have been an emotional situation standing there and photographing the train. It's incomprehensible what people went through in the areas that was hit by the tsunami and its aftermath.

Lars, you have summed the scenario up nicely. I took this one shot before our guide quietly explained what we were looking at, any further thoughts of photography or talk had been dispelled.

Perhaps the rat has been poisoned with a chemical that also kills beetles? An interesting addition to our Gallery Of The Macabre.

Many thanks, Keith! - it's from a forest trail and I wouldn't expect that poison is being laid out (to kill e.g. rats) in that area, but you never know if chemicals has been left there. I went back and it turns out the path is used by many runners .. so the beetles were probably crunched and spread while enjoying the carcass.

I like the sense of light and color here, Lars! I've always been fascinated by the microcosm of the pond or wetland.

Many thanks, Keith! - glad you like the colour and light. It seems we have something in common - I have a similar fascination and the reason I often look for subjects to photograph in ponds, lakes, rivers etc. I was the kind of child that often brought "specimens" home for further study .. not always popular with my parents, but they learned to live with it

This time a hatchling - a dove chick in my backyard. My guess is that it had fallen out of the nest or taken from the nest by a magpie or squirrel. Two magpies seemed to enjoy it as a good lunch - then one of them grabbed it and ran off.
