Looks cold . . .
« on: January 19, 2016, 10:43:27 »
The snow here is already disappearing - a combination of compacting, sublimation and melting a little in the daytime - but it is still pretty cold and the lack of any sunshine makes it worse. The tree has been there for years; it's firmly grounded.

Anything looking cold probably *is* cold .... Open water and/or wind and below-zero temperatures are a truly chilling experience that can zap you of energy very quickly.

Over here we "enjoy" fairly cold weather at present, down to -30C inland and slightly 'warmer' towards the coast. Very little snow, about 1/2 m maximum.

It certainly conveys cold ! The top of this image looks like it was etched by frost onto a windowpane - very effective and quite artistic.

Not to upset you but today in a beach suburb about 25km south of Sydney, it was a near perfect 28 degrees Celsius with fresh light winds  ;D

You live upside down at the other side of the planet, so our '-' is replaced by your '+' :D simple mathematics ...

Do not think citizens of the Nordic countries don't love their winter. We do. Not the least because it makes the longing for, and experience of, the bright summer and the everlasting days the more enjoyable.

Mongo is sure you do like your winters. You have something we do not - snow. Wherever we all live, absence of the others' virtues makes the heart grow fonder for it (does it not ?)

We have Winter Wonderland and the Nordic Light that goes with it. We don't have kangaroos and red deserts. So on a whole, life balances.

Having our first below 30 degree F weather here at the beach. For us that's cold.  :P Ha, ha, ha.

I know you northern macho-men don't think it's cold until fingers and toes start breaking off, but we've had three nights of -8C and that is quite respectably cold enough.

I do understand that. When housing isn't built for real cold it's getting pretty cold inside as well.
