The second shot is intriguing. Did you climb the roof of thy Hyatt Hotel?
You are out there. You and your camera. You can shoot or not shoot as you please. Discover the world, Your world. Show it to us. Or we might never see it.

Beautiful night scenes

I like the composition of #1
I think #2 has less saturation on the highlights, I can see better details

Frank and Armando, thanks for commenting

the first was done near the riverside
and the second from the round  tower beside the Hyatt
through a Makrolon window,
there is a beautiful view, but you have a lot of light pollution
from flashing mobiles and reflections in the window

I really like your second picture. It's an unusual perspective, not the classic "tourist perspective" of the first picture. The focal length compresses the inner city buildings in an interesting way.

Maybe it is the exposure or it is the focus, but something about the cathedral in picture 1 doesn't look pleasing to me. If I remember correctly, the yellow lights on the bridge are rather subdued, whereas the white lighting of the cathedral is very intense and harsh. That is certainly a very challenging lighting to catch on sensor.

As a side remark, that round tower almost led to Cologne loosing its UNESCO world heritage title - Historically no building near the cathedral was permitted to exceed a certain number of floors thereby not restricting the view to the cathedral. That round tower was a very close shot to that title. If I remember correctly execution of the tower fell short of the original plan by a certain number of floors - a classical compromise.

Günther thanks for commenting

The shots from the tower, leaving out the water and reflections have only to deal with the multiple temperatures of all the lamps around the church, museum and bridge.
This makes it easier to find an acceptable solution for the old building, that is partially white renovated and partially dirty grey.

That's an interesting framing, Mike. The picture perhaps could be further improved by running some noise reduction at least for the sky area.

Thanks Thomas, I was quite pleased as this was hand held at 0400 after a few beers on board the cruise ship Olympia!

Bjorn yes there is noise but you will see why if you look at the exif, ISO 12800, but when I move the sliders in LightRoom very little seems to happen!
