How to post an image?
« on: June 19, 2015, 15:29:52 »

Do not laugh, but I have no idea how do I post an image here.
All my images are stored on my hard drive.
I think there should be some "Posting images for Dummies" instruction in the help section.
 Thank you.

You might start by clicking on the Attachment link found directly below the text box when you post. Follow the instructions there.

Another option, if you have your images stored externally on Flickr or similar sites, is embedding by using the "Insert Image" button found in the BBC code panel above your posting text box.

Have a look around the Beta Issues and Helpdesk sections. Lots have been published on this topic already.

If questions remain, don't hesitate to ask again.

Thank you. I have got that far, selected the image, I can see it in the attachment window and... there are no instructions.. how to get it into the post?

It will automatically be attached to the post, you wont see it until you actually have clicked the post button. It was a bit confusing for me as well in the beginning.

Very unfortunate. And confusing.
If you want to organise text around one or more pictures, this means that you always will have to edit your post after submitting it. Normally you would want to format the content of your post before showing it in public.

Yes, the Attachment method is messy and we know that!!

Because we are so new, we have not yet been able to fix everything to our liking.
But we are working on improvements.

No worries Andrea. As long as you think something can be done, we can eagerly wait in patience (a contradiction perhaps).  :)

For some quite inscrutable reason, the SMF developers haven't given embedding images into messages much thought. So we are looking for a modification or third-party plugin to deal with the issue. As of now, we at least have managed to get posted images scale propery, whether they are attached or linked. A first step and to us, huge improvement.

When I tried to insert flickr images it didn't work. I wonder what went wrong. I included the entire url starting with https. This was a couple of weeks ago. Only the html code was visible in the finalized post. No image.

You need to click 'Show all sizes' on a Flickr image and select the size you want, then use the IMG tags to enclose that link (right-click and use 'Copy location' in your browser).

SMF is not very streamlined when it comes to showing images, but we trudge along and most members seem to manage after a while. There are worse solutions and of course much better, but not for free.
