Nikon Prices go thru the roof
« on: January 12, 2016, 18:52:20 »
I nearly had a 3rd heart attack today when I saw the price of new Nikon equipment. Clearly I wasn't the only one - Fanie also noticed this - it must have happened really recently.

With our Rand exchange rate going right down the drain - my 70-200 now costs more than double I paid for it

Our rand depreciated SO badly - the 70-200 now costs the equivalent of $3040. Two weeks ago it was roughly $2600 (give or take a dollar or two)

With this exchange rate - you ALL SHOULD COME DO A TOUR WITH ME !!!

Nikon raised their prices as from January 1st.
In Holland the prices went far up as well. For example the 24/1.4G went up from €1.849,00 to €2.259,00!

Sorry to hear that, Elsa.  But, hey, not everything is bad: the young dollar-rich men look even more attractive now!

http://nikonrumors.com/2016/01/28/nikon-announced-price-increase-in-japan.aspx/

Nikon announced a new price increase in Japan for Nikkor lenses and Speedlight flashes. The full list of impacted products can be found here (PDF file). The new pricing will be active on March 1st, 2016. The reason for the new pricing is the increased cost of raw materials.

Not on eBay you can't!  Someone I know did that and despite the listing clearly stating that they were empty boxes, eBay unlisted them and threatened to ban my friend for listing anything, citing their anti copyright infringement policy: That it could encourage a counterfeiter to use the genuine boxes to sell counterfeit goods.

If anybody can produce a counterfeit Nikon camera or lens (which was what the boxes were for) then creating their own counterfeit boxes would surely be a doddle!

Which is why I no longer use eBay, among other reasons.  Control freaks.

Seapy. it's not just they are control freaks it's also that there are more conman per square metre than anywhere else I can think of!!!

Do these Nikon price rises around the world mean that trade in prices will go up as well, I wonder.

Sometimes you can exploit Nikon price increases, if you know ahead of time that the price will be going up.
In early 2009, I read that Nikon USA prices will be going up March 1st, 2009.  So, I bought a brand new Nikon 24-70 AFS lens at about $1490 or so.
A year later, when I had had my fill of the decent quality, but 'too large to carry around' 24-70, I sold it for about $1400.
