I'm a survivor
« on: January 08, 2016, 01:10:35 »
Taken in the summertime downtown on Yonge Street here in Toronto.
Came upon a woman sitting in the shade of a construction hoarding begging for money. Her sign and expression told her sad story.
Converted to black and white in Photoshop.
Motorized Nikon F3P
Vivitar series 1 135 2.3 AI manual focus
Fuji 100 ISO colour slide
2.8 @ 1/500th

I shoot with film. That's film. F...i...l...m. You remember film. It was in all the papers.

hard and clear words summerizing a life full of hardships. The reduced scenery / setting and expression contribute to the immersive effect

This is such a strong image.  Her isolation is evident, her body posture adds to the tension of the photo, and her sign  becomes a confirmation of her plight.  But what really seals this shot is her tattered pants.  It is as if she were given the pants and they were too long and she simply cut them off at the bottom.  Such a complete metaphor for a life that seemingly went astray.  One of your better images, Robert.  Great stuff.

I echo Rick's comments. The loneliness overflows and penetrates the viewer.
